What is panchang

The mutual relation of Moon and Sun is being observed by some parameters (i.e., celestial phenomenon). These parameters are being used to calculate or infer the time. It’s an age long practice in India and its genesis cannot be claimed in any particular way but it can be inferred with the help of the references we get in ancient literature. Among that literature, Veda is the oldest one and till today we are unable to ascribe a time to its birth. We, the followers of Hinduism (a sound life style) believe that it’s an immortal gift of the nature.

Panchang has two major aspects. The first one is time calculation by which we are connected to the nature. It is just similar to the calendars like Gregorian calendar etc at present. Its preparation is based on a fixed celestial system which is not in human beings control.

The second aspect is the proper application and use of cosmic properties of the nature. The time calculation process depends on the ingredients formulated there upon. Among them tithi and Nakshtra represent the cosmic properties also besides the time. These cosmic properties fulfill and destroy the desires in different modes. So the system is well designed to avail the fulfillment nature of that cosmic facet and avoid the destroying nature.

Hence the panchangam in our tradition is a tool to follow the time and a proper application of energy to fulfill the wishes.
