Prof.Ramachandra Jha
Prof Ramachandra Jha is a veteran Indian astronomer, editor of Darbhanga Sanskrit University’s Panchang since last thirty years and still working as a professor in the same university.
Here, we present some excerpts from his speech in Jyotish Conference held at Rajahmundry from 20th January to 22nd January 1980 at Rajahmundry. He delivered his speech in Sanskrit and we present both Sanskrit and English versions of his speech.
“My views on present Panchang are as follows. First of all the Panchang in India should be prepared depending on one among the Suryasiddhanta, Makaranda and Grahalaghava. We can bring similarity in Panchangams and can weed out the differences. For this purpose, the best, pure, authentic and respected Suryasiddhanta method is only acceptable since it was the oldest work. In this way only we can get the uniformity in religious rites and schools of thought also.”
