Different panchangams
Freedom of thought is available in India since Vedic age. This elasticity made our tradition immortal. This freedom of thought gave birth to different schools of thought in the matter of panchang preparation also. On that basis the panchangams were divided to three major schools which are Arya, Surya and Brahma. At present we do not have the effect of these differences on our panchangs.
The British rule divided the panchagams on a new issue. This issue is still in debate but none of them rule this arena at this moment. Both are equivalently in use and people follow one among them at their will and according to the situation. Now both traditional and so called drigganita panchangams are available in India. Among them the traditional follows the Surya Siddhanta school of thought and it is in vogue in many places. The Drigganita is based on the heliocentric planets and the data is obtained from different modern sources. |
